The Willard Suitcases

A man dressed in period costume standing in a vintage bathroom, holding an umbrella and a suitcase, with peeling green paint on the walls. The image is part of promotional material for a theatrical production titled "The Willard Suitcases."

Book, Music & Lyrics by Julianne Wick Davis

Description:
The Willard Asylum for the Chronically Insane began its operations in 1869. When the psychiatric center finally shuttered in 1995, over 400 suitcases were discovered in an attic that belonged to patients who were admitted between 1910 and 1968. The Willard Suitcases is a theatrical event that imagines the owners of these suitcases and their stories while exploring the history and stigma of mental health in our country.
